Design:

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a 10.1” TFT LCD widescreen multi-touch display with high resolution of 1280×800 pixels. The display is simply stunning, vibrant and vivid. The touch screen is capacitive and highly sensitive. The touch controls are effortless to use, thanks to the accurate touch screen and Samsung’s Touchwiz UX. The touch screen makes the videos, photos and the UX animations come to life. The display supports 4-way rotation so you don’t have to worry about holding the tablet at the right orientation (unless you have an orientation lock enabled).

There are no buttons on the front bezel, just a 2.0 MP camera above the display for video chat.

The backside of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is made up of high quality durable plastic. The tablet is available in 2 colors – grey and white; hence the front bezel and the back plastic will be of grey or white color depending on your choice.

On the backside of the tablet, the top side is metallic and the top edge has a SIM slot, 3.5 mm audio jack, a volume jack and an On/Off/Sleep/Wake buttons. A 3.0 MP camera with LED flash is present on the metallic part on the back side. The backside camera supports 720p HD video recording. The photos taken from the camera came out good in the daylight but were slightly grainy in low light conditions. However, night mode with LED flash did the trick for us and the photos came out decent.
There is a 30-pin dock connector in the centre of the bottom edge of the tablet for data cable / charger.  The build quality of the tablet speaks for itself.

The dimensions of the tablet are 256.7 mm x 175.3 mm x 8.6 mm. At 8.6 mm thickness, it a bit thinner than iPad2 and weighs just 565gm! No wonder it is the thinnest and lightest tablet in the market.

Performance:

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is powered by 1 GHz dual core NVIDIA Tegra 2 CPU and a powerful GPU. This is coupled with 1 GB RAM and 16 GB /32 GB internal memory. Needless to say, multitasking is fast and efficient.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 runs Google Android v3.1 (Honeycomb) which certainly feels faster than previous versions of Android. Everything feels faster and the animation and transition effects are notably snappier. The Samsung Touchwiz UX has been redesigned and refined by Samsung and it now provides you a live panel at the home screen and mini apps which can be added or removed.

The tablet supports WMV7, WMV8, WMV9, H.263, H.264, MPEG4, Xvid, DivX, VP8 video formats and can play 1080p full HD videos at 30 fps. To check this we ran a 1080p full HD version of Transformers 3 trailer which it played back smoothly without any glitch or stuttering. This shows the real power of NVIDIA Tegra2 platform. Even the games seemed to be running faster and smoother when compared to the other competing Android tablets in the market.

The tablet supports WMA, MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, RA video formats. The output from the built in surround speakers was loud and the output using earphones was excellent.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 comes preloaded with Polaris Office which supports viewing and editing of Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. The other preloaded applications include full suite of Google Applications (Gmail, Gtalk with video support, Google Calendar, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Latitude, Android Browser with Adobe Flash support, Android Market and Navigation (beta version). The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 also has A-GPS and support for turn-by-turn navigation in Google Maps.

Samsung has also provided the users with 3 hubs – Social Hub (integrates SMS, IM and E-mail), Music Hub (allows users to search, listen to and download tracks) and Reader’s Hub (integrates available E-books, Magazines and Newspapers).

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 supports 4G LTE / HSPA+ 21 Mbps 850/900/1900/2100, EDGE/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 networks and also has Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 wire wireless communication. Internet surfing was fast and smooth in the Android browser. The download speeds were between 4 Mbps to 12 Mbps while the upload speeds were between 2 to 5 Mbps on the 4G LTE network.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is powered by a 7000mAh battery which lasts for around 9.5 hours with 50% brightness and typical use.

Conclusion:

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G LTE is really the thinnest, lightest and the fastest tablet available in the market. It has a great build quality, power of NVIDIA Tegra 2, great application selection good battery life. It excels both in work and play. We wish that it had a 5.0 MP camera instead of the 3.0 MP camera which would have made it almost perfect. Still, Samsung has really come out with a great product with Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 which we would recommend to anyone without slightest hesitation.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G LTE is available from Verizon Wireless in grey / white colors with 16 GB model costing $529.99 and 32 GB model costing $629.99 with a 2-year mobile broadband plan.

I would also recommend the Galaxy Tab 10.1! As an owner of an LTE version, I would definitely say it is a tablet worth getting, even if it is a bit expensive! All of the features on it are worth the asking price. LTE is very useful for downloading and streaming. For example, I use the DISH Remote Access app to stream live TV and recorded shows from my Sling Adapter-connected receiver wherever I am. LTE makes streaming in HD fantastic! The battery lasts pretty long as well! Working for DISH, I have had a lot of time to experience the DISH Remote Access app, and since using it on the Galaxy Tab with LTE, it has become one of my favorite and most used apps. I love my Galaxy Tab 10.1, and I know anyone who gets one will love it too!
